We wanted to share a little bit more about why we do what we do, and how we got to doing the quality of work we pride ourselves in doing.
Starting our own business has always been a passion project of ours. Echelon Builders was created because we saw a way to blend our many passions and skill sets and apply them to a much larger scale. I got into woodworking through my love of wood, instruments and art. I always dabbled with little projects growing up and was able to pursue my passion of learning the trade of lutherie (stringed instrument making) after graduating highschool. This experience taught me that I could learn a trade and then use the skills of that trade to develop a career based on the precision, craftsmanship and artistic skills that fine woodworking entails. I shifted towards construction due to the nature of the custom guitar industry and not being able to achieve what I wanted to from being a guitar builder. I started my business because I want to be able to provide the best experience for my clients, as well as the best product for them. We will provide spectacular homes and living spaces for our clients through a fun, exciting and truly inspirational time during the entire process. Together we will create living spaces that are inspiring, timeless, and a form of liveable art to enjoy and build memories in.
You can see our background and love of fine woodwork through the pride we take in our woodworking, millwork and small details of our homes. We hand make all of our cabinets, vanities, custom closets and built-ins in house to ensure quality and uniqueness. Our history and attention to details has fueled our passion for renovating and restoring historical spaces. I grew up in New England and absolutely love the architecture here. I currently live in a home that's about 300 years old and is a testament to proper building techniques, classic styling, and timeless design and woodworking that has stood the test of time.
What types of projects excite us? At Echelon Builders we love being able to work on classic and timeless designs inspired by New England style homes. Be it a new home that is designed to look like it's been around for 150 years or an existing home that's over a 100 years old and needs to be brought up to today's standards. We want to honor the things that make these homes great and magical, but also make them comfortable for the needs of today's families. We also enjoy being able to build Modern and Contemporary style homes. Contemporary and Modern home styles rely on a minimalist approach in regards to millwork and being able to "hide" things based on a stacked millwork design. You have large areas of blank walls with minimalist stylings, so if your walls aren't straight and your framing is off, it's going to stick out. Contemporary and Modern homes have their own unique set of challenges and methods of execution. Knowing what materials to use and the methods and practices to achieve those results are very rewarding and exciting to me from a technical execution standpoint. I have also found an interest in Northwest, Alpine and Scandinavian home designs. They have recently grown in popularity because they have a good blend of detail and minimalism while maintaining a level of warmth and a classic style. The details of these builds are amazing; they just may not be so obvious to spot, and it excites us to be a part of creating them in a home.
